G. E. "Ed" Via III: 1.Maintaining a good working relationship between the Town of Ashland and Hanover County.
2.Continue to fund our excellent school system and emergency responders.
3. Encourage economic development while still maintaining a balanced budget and not raising taxes.
G. E. "Ed" Via III: Increase government efficiency and being careful how we spend the citizens tax dollars.
G. E. "Ed" Via III: 4 years as Ashland district supervisor, chairman of the board in 2010, a lifetime of community service to the county, running a small business - Basic Fence Builders for 25 years.
G. E. "Ed" Via III: Cut taxes where possible and only spend what is necessary.
G. E. "Ed" Via III: I will consider changes that would increase county efficiency or reduce the tax burden but I am not in favor of change for change sake.
The County has a AAA bond rating and has been consistently rated as one of the 100 best places to live, I will work hard to protect that.
Kevin R. Damian: The need to bring in new business and industry to provide jobs
Reducing home assessments to actual market value
Lack of high-speed internet access choice and availability
Kevin R. Damian: Broaden the scope of economic development to include the agricultural industry and tourism. Lower home assessments to market value. Work with cell phone service providers to make wireless high-speed internet service available where possible.
Kevin R. Damian: I have worked in the community since I moved to Hanover 17 years ago. Serving as both President and Vice President of my Homeowners Association. We had no reserve fund when I was elected after 8 years we had an $80,000.00 reserve fund. I know how to create and adhere to a budget. I have been in leadership roles in many civic organizations and understand the importance of reaching a consensus with a diverse group of people. Graduated from the Hanover Citizens Planning Academy and have attended many other land use sessions. Participated in the last three Comprehensive Land Use Plan updates and have attended numerous public hearings these past 17 years.
Kevin R. Damian: We are required to have a balanced budget. I have closely examined the Hanover County Budget and know where money can be saved and redirected. There is no need for a tax increase to fully fund education, law enforcement, fire and rescue services. We can even improve and increase funding where necessary and make up for the decrease revenue when home assessments are lowered. I will spend taxpayers money as if it were my own.
Kevin R. Damian: I want to televise public hearings, form a citizen advisory committee and look at ways to make government user friendly for business and residents. I want to increase tax breaks for the handicap and elderly, increase funding for mental health, special needs and other social services without raising taxes!
