Patti A. Jackson: The top three challenges for the Henry District and Hanover County are: creating jobs and economic development, while protecting our historic and rural resources; addressing growth and infrastructure without raising taxes; and maintaining quality education for our families. We also need to keep our crime rate low and our taxes the lowest in the region.
Patti A. Jackson: I will continue to promote tourism as a growth industry to create jobs and bring revenue to Hanover, as well as support economic development that fits with the character of our community in appropriate economic zones. I will assure that we have balanced development and that developers pay their fair share of infrastructure costs, so taxpayers will not be further burdened. I will make sure that our teachers have the resources and class sizes that will provide the best education for our children to maintain our top schools ranking.
Patti A. Jackson: Throughout my 28 years in Hanover, I have been actively involved in the community - serving on numerous committees and working on planning and zoning issues. I also served on the Board of Hanover Citizens for Quality of Life for several years. As the Executive Director of the American Cancer Society for Central Virginia, I work closely with members of the community. During my 22 years as Executive Director of the James River Association, I worked with citizens, several local governments and state agencies in protecting water quality. historic resources, and balanced land use. I am only concerned about being a voice for the citizens, not the special interests.
Patti A. Jackson: I believe that Hanover should continue to have the lowest tax rate in the Greater Richmond Region, while maintaining our AAA bond rating and controlling spending.
Patti A. Jackson: I want to make sure that we protect our historic and rural resources, while pursuing greater tourism opportunities. I would like to explore new ways to utilize the expertise and volunteerism of Hanoverians in addressing our community's needs. We have many citizens who could provide assistance on vital programs for Hanover. We also need to leverage resources available from the state to maximize the benefits to our community.
