Nick Smith: Virginia needs to invest in job training, particularly in technology driven work. There is a gap between the level of training employers seek, and the level of training job-seekers have. America competes on productivity. We need better trained, more productive workers in Virginia to bring more jobs here.
Nick Smith: I support charter schools as a means of strengthening the resources available for schooling in the Commonwealth. A charter school in my district could relieve some of the burden on county schools.
I would prefer to see more money invested in our local schools than see a school voucher program. We do not have a wide variety of private schools available in the 99th District. A voucher program would overburden our private schools.
Nick Smith: My chief goal in the legislature is to bring a technology development center to the 99th District to foster job training and increase employment. The Commonwealth built a number of these facilities in the Western region of the state under Governors Warner and Kaine, and they were a major success. I want to make that same investment in my district.
Nick Smith: I offer the voters real plans, not just platitudes and promises. I will be a leader in Richmond, not just a pawn of my party leadership. I will work across party lines to get done what needs to get done. I am the better candidate, which is why my opponent ran from debating me this election campaign.
Margaret Ransone: There are several things that Virginia can do to improve our economy and create jobs. We need to keep our taxes low, so that we continue to incentivize small business growth, and give our business the capital they need to begin hiring again, and we need to fight intrusive government regulations.
More specifically, each district within Virginia is unique, and each community within our state has specific needs and concerns that will be benefitted by their representatives in the House and the Senate. I intend to represent the 99th District so that I can work to expand our local economy by means of the things that make us unique, like the Bay, our agriculture, and our historical tradition.
Margaret Ransone: It’s important that there’s a strong relationship between parents, children, and their educational environment to ensure that each child is able to develop in a way that best fits his/her individual needs. We can best accomplish this by providing a solid, competitive and secure education for our children.
I do not believe that education is a “one size fits all,” and parents/caregivers having school choice ensures that each child is able to thrive in the environment that best suits them.
Margaret Ransone: My chief goal in the legislature is to represent my constituents within the 99th, preserve the values we share, and secure a strong future for all Virginians. I will work with my colleagues in the House to pass legislation that will promote small business growth, promote an economic environment that will enable our businesses to expand, and give them the certainty they need to begin hiring once again.
Margaret Ransone: I love this District, and I know this District. I have lived in the Northern Neck my entire life, and I have grown up with our farmers, contractors, fishermen, and small businesses. I have been a business woman here for over 12 years, and our local farmers and small businesses know I’m the best person to represent them, which is why I have received the full endorsement of Virginia Farm Bureau, as well as the National Federation of Independent Business, the largest small business association in the country.
I have been a longtime volunteer in our local schools and churches. Our local teachers and pastors know my strong commitment to the community, and they have formed Teachers for Ransone and Pastors for Ransone coalitions so that I can continue to effectively serve families and our community in Richmond. The entire community knows my commitment to doing what’s best for us, and their confidence in me is why I’m here.
