David Bernard: We need solutions that put people to work doing what needs to be done - completing the cleanup of the James and Chesapeake, moving forward with clean energy and funding for education and public safety. Along with investments in transportation, the stage will be set for expansion of private sector opportunities.
David Bernard: I am opposed to vouchers. Virtual schools clearly have a place in public education. The appeal of charter schools is the possibility of enhanced community involvement and innovation. These worthy goals can and should be met within our existing public school system.
David Bernard: For too long I have watched state leaders ignore the problems of pollution and exhaustion of our natural resources. Building a sustainable economy with opportunity for all is a goal we should all share.
David Bernard: The incumbent John Watkins is eager to jeopardize Virginians' health and future by promoting radioactive uranium mining. He has a record of giving polluters a pass and they contribute to his campaigns. I will be beholden to the citizens of the 10th District and not to the polluters whose agenda has been advanced by John Watkins for decades.
John Watkins: Virginia must maintain its focus on economic development and educational improvement. The Commonwealth MUST fix the transportation system in order to continue to entice new business and industry.
John Watkins: I am a proponent of charter schools and virtual schools and feel that they will offer parents and students some significant choices. I am not sold on vouchers per se. It must be developed as a system with accountability in order to be acceptable.
John Watkins: To make state government as efficient as possible and to assure that tax dollars are focused in areas that genuinely meet the criteria of state government responsibility and participation.
John Watkins: I am a small business person and I look at issues in a pragmatic way. I remain as independent as possible of special interests and focus instead on the needs and responsibilities associated with the citizens of the 10th Senatorial District and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
